The continuing saga of our favorite Victorian adventurer!
In The Detective's Dinner Party game, we met Sir Carter Whittington, an eccentric millionaire who met his untimely death at the hands of Jack the Ripper.
(The Detective's Dinner Party closed on August 17th.)
In the latest chapter of Sir Carter's dramatic adventures, we find that Jack has broken Sir Carter's time machine, but Sir Carter has left behind cryptic messages that might just contain instructions to rebuild the damaged machine. If that's possible, then perhaps you can rewind time and send a message to Sir Carter BEFORE he meets Jack and prevent his murder!
The Dame Disappears
That famous female British mystery novelist has vanished and left a letter suggesting that her broken heart has driven her to take drastic action. Scotland Yard has called in your team of master detectives to examine clues left behind in her bedroom, and determine whether her disappearance is truly a cry for help, a stunt created to sell more books, or a sign of foul play. The Dame's somewhat shifty husband has been named a suspect; he is out of the house for one hour, and it is up to you to find the evidence hidden in his wife's
Art Deco bedroom that will either exonerate him,
or lead to his arrest.
You've come to stay for the summer in your grandparent's farmhouse attic. Your grandfather, a mischievous trickster, is amusing himself by setting you a scavenger hunt. He's hidden the keys to your suitcases, and you must follow the clues he's left in your room to find the keys and access your things. There's only one problem ... as you search the room, you find signs that someone else has been there before you ... and they might just be in grave danger. You will have one hour to uncover the identities of these mysterious visitors, determine why they've reached out to you, and figure out what you can do to help.
WHAT IS A MYSTERY ROOM?
This is a game that's great for all ages! Bring your team of up to eight friends and family members, and work together to solve a roomful of codes, puzzles, riddles and clues. You will have ONE HOUR to uncover the solution to a fascinating mystery! We have three rooms available to play, each with a different literary theme, inspired by some of our favorite mystery novels.
IS THIS LIKE AN ESCAPE ROOM?
Yes, it's similar. Our games focus on uncovering pieces of an overall story, using hidden puzzles along the way to help you find the solution to your mystery (as opposed to solving a series of unrelated puzzles to find a key.)
WILL I BE LOCKED IN A ROOM?
No, the door to your room will not be locked. You will be able to move freely in and out of the game room, but you will likely prefer to remain where you are in order to complete your mission in the allotted 60 minutes!
HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?
$30 (plus tax) per person over age 6
HOW DO I MAKE A RESERVATION FOR A GAME?
Click HERE to see the available game times and reserve online. If you'd like to schedule a game at a time not currently on our regular schedule, or if you are booking within 24 hours of your game, please call us at (860) 877-6099 and we'll make the necessary arrangements!
ARE WALK-INS ACCEPTED?
Sorry, no. We schedule our game masters (who run the rooms) based on our online reservations. If there is no group scheduled to play at a particular time, there will not be any staff present at the site.
HOW MANY PEOPLE CAN PLAY A ROOM AT ONCE?
Up to 8 people can play a game together. We recommend a minimum of two people (one person will not have time to finish all the puzzles in one hour).
WILL MY TEAM BE PAIRED WITH STRANGERS?
No. Your game will consist only of your team.
ARE CHILDREN ALLOWED TO PLAY?
Yes! Escape rooms are a fantastic family activity, and you may find that your children can solve puzzles that you can't! (On the flip side your child's amazement when YOU solve a puzzle that has stumped him will make you feel like a superhero-genius!) Children under age 6 do not need a ticket, and do not count toward the room capacity. Groups of children under the age of 16 should have an adult present in the room. School groups are very welcome.
ARE ANY OF THE ROOMS HANDICAPPED-ACCESSIBLE?
Yes. Our "Save Sir Carter" room is located on our first floor, and is ADA-compliant. We've tested the space for wheelchair-accessibility to all of the puzzles, and have cool "grabby tools" available as well. There is a ramp located at the rear of the house to enter through the back door,
and our first-floor restroom is also ADA-compliant.
Please call ahead (860-877-6099) to discuss the specific modifications
we can make for all kinds of disabilities.
CAN I CELEBRATE AN EVENT HERE?
Yes! We LOVE to host birthday parties and fun get-togethers among friends in our themed English Kitchen or hidden Medieval Castle Keep. Both spaces can be rented for $25/hr on a weeknight, or $30/hr (for the kitchen) or $45/hr (for the castle) on a weekend. Bring your own food, drinks, and paper goods, and enjoy celebrating your success solving the mystery! Call (860) 877-6099 to arrange a date & time.
DO YOU CATER TO CORPORATE EVENTS?
Yes! Please call (860) 877-6099 to arrange a team-building game in one or several of our rooms. 8 players can fit in each room, so if your group is larger, you can play several rooms simultaneously and race to see which team can finish first! Special corporate rates available for parties that book for 10+ players.
WHERE ARE YOU LOCATED?
We are at 750 Hopmeadow Street in Simsbury, Connecticut, inside The Storyteller's Cottage. Our building is a lovely, light green, Victorian house, just to the left of Joe Pizza, and to the right of Eno Hall.
WHERE CAN I PARK?
You can park on the street directly in front of the house, or anywhere on Hopmeadow Street (on-street parking is free). Additional free parking is available behind the Fiddler's Green building (where Joe Pizza is located).
To reach this lot, you can use 6 Wilcox Street in your GPS, or simply make a left at Joe Pizza, drive past McLadden's Pub, and you'll see several parking lots on your left and ahead of you.
Why is GREAT SCOTT! different from other escape rooms?
Our location in a historic house helps our players feel completely immersed in another world. All of our rooms are inspired by our favorite novels, which makes us more of a literary activity, as opposed to a scary, thrill room, or highly-technical room full of gadgets. We love vintage style and classic mysteries, so our games are intellectual, elegant and fanciful, with a whimsical nod to our people, the book nerds! Your progress through the room will feel more like turning pages of a book and uncovering new elements of a story, then hopping from one locked box to another.
